AHDA: History and Achievements
Defending the right to sell animal medicines

History & Achievements
Ever since the formation of AHDA in 1985, there has been a continuing threat to the availability and supply of important medicinal products for both food and non-food producing animals. It is true to say that, if it was not for the success of AHDA defending its members’ right to sell and supply animal medicines, all medicines would require a veterinary prescription and only be available from a vet.

Every opportunity is taken to challenge and question every threat real or perceived that may affect the rights of the registered, qualified distributor to stock and sell POM-VPS and NFA-VPS medicines. Likewise AHDA actively encourages manufacturers to seek POM-VPS and NFA-VPS classification for its members to ensure fairness in competition, pricing and availability to owners and keepers of animals. Challenges come from all directions, notable the most serious is EU directives produced from a Europe that does not recognise our system from a majority of countries. Environment, Health & Safety, UK Government, animal activists and all manner of organisations mean AHDA has to remain vigilant and alert at all times. AHDA Milestones
